Jan Ketcham
At some points in life most of us will struggle with overwhelming challenges, unforeseen changes and problems. Getting hit with a crisis such as divorce, job loss, empty nest, addiction or a loved one’s sudden death can leave us devastated and uncertain about what to do next. Although pain is inevitable in life, I also believe that resilience and joy can be attainable to us all. What I love most about my work as a therapist is helping people process these events, and in this process, gain introspection into themselves and their circumstances and come out on the other side stronger and more resilient.
I have been working as a Clinical Therapist for nearly a decade. I have worked extensively with adolescents, adults and families struggling with depression, anxiety, grief, addiction and other mental disorders. I hold a master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from West Chester University, a Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor and a Licensed Professional Counselor. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, women in crisis and addiction.
I am certified in treating trauma, as well as being trained in Cultural Competency and Women in Addiction.
My approach to treatment is as unique as each of my clients. When I first meet someone, I listen very carefully to understand their individual needs, struggles, personality and circumstances that brought them into treatment. I then take an eclectic approach using a combination of evidenced-based therapeutic modalities that include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness and Grounding Techniques, Motivational Interviewing, Psycho-drama, Addiction and Relapse Prevention as well as common sense others that I feel will lead to successful outcomes for my clients.
Prior to being a counsellor, I had a long, successful career as a writer working in advertising and then went on to publish several books for middle-school children. I enjoy writing comedy and making people laugh. My last book entitled Revenge of the Substitute teacher was an international best seller.
My hope for all of us is that we can embrace being human, problems and all, and come out on the other side stronger, happier and more resilient.
